Chiang J. Li, M.D., Chairman, CEO
and CSO
Prior to founding Boston Biomedical, Inc., Dr. Li was
the CSO & EVP of ArQule Inc. (Nasdaq: arql), where
his management responsibility included drug discovery,
preclinical development, clinical trials, Pharmaceutical
development, and intellectual property. Dr. Li established
ArQule’s R&D unit (ArQule Biomedical Institute),
which led to the transformation of ArQule from a world
leading chemistry service business to a R&D focused
company. Dr. Li was one of the main architects of the
ArQule-Roche oncology partnership ($276 million), managed
the M&A between ArQule and Cyclis and has led or participated
in financing efforts at private and public companies.
Dr. Li was the scientific founder of Cyclis Pharmaceuticals,
Inc, a faculty member and a physician at Harvard Medical
School. Dr. Li has performed research for twenty years
with over 50 publications, including a number of highly
cited articles in top journals, and is an inventor of
over 30 issued or filed patents, including ACTSM
(Checkpoint pathway activation therapy), ARQ 501/ARQ 171
(E2F1 pathway activators), ARQ 197 (the first selective
c-Met inhibitor in clinical trials), and tkRNAi (transkingdom
RNA interference). He currently serves as the Chairman
of ArQule’s Scientific Advisory Board, founder &
a board director of Cequent Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr.
Li graduated from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Science
and Technology, received M.D. magna cum laude from Harvard
Medical School and completed clinical residency and fellowship
at Brigham& Women’s hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center.
David S. Leggett, Ph.D., Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Leggett has over 17 years of experience conducting
and overseeing biological research. Dr. Leggett joined
Boston Biomedical, Inc. from ArQule Inc, where he served
from 2003 to 2006 in several roles, most recently as Associate
Director of Project Management and R&D Biology Operations.
During this time, Dr. Leggett oversaw 10 oncology programs
ranging from early discovery to development, and functioned
as senior project manager in the preclinical development
studies and filing of 2 investigational new drug applications
(ARQ 197 and ARQ 171). Prior to joining ArQule, Dr. Leggett
conducted research at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Leggett
holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of British Columbia
and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of
McGill.
Lisa A. Velardo, Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Velardo has extensive finance and operational experience
in a broad range of private, venture capital-backed businesses.
Prior to joining Boston Biomedical, Inc., Ms. Velardo
served as the Director of Finance and Administration at
Watermill Ventures. Prior to Watermill, Ms. Velardo served
as the Vice President of Finance and Administration at
Vality Technology Inc., a $20 million data quality software
firm. At BBI, Ms. Velardo is responsible for general financial
management (financial operations and reporting, budgeting
and forecasting, strategic planning, cash flow management,
technical accounting and taxation). Ms. Velardo is a Certified
Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a BS in Business Administration
from Merrimack College.
